As has become tradition, the beginning of September for students in the MIM Business School’s Senior Executive MBA program kicked off with an off-campus training module in Zakarpattia. This year’s program, titled “Value Management: From Local Resources to the National Level”, was dedicated to exploring how companies in the region build sustainable ecosystems, work effectively with local resources, and enter national and international markets. 
Myroslava Grozinska, Vice President for Academic Affairs at the MIM Business School: 
<blockquote>

Our field trip has proven that the exchange of experiences among top managers, business founders, and our students gives rise to new ideas and partnerships. Such trips enrich the managerial worldview and confirm that the strength of Ukrainian business lies in resilience, unity, and a constant drive for development.”

Over the course of three eventful days, the students immersed themselves in exploring the region’s diverse business models. The educational tour began with a visit to the new fractionation plant of the biotechnology company <a href="https://biopharma.ua/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Biopharma PLASMA </a>in Uzhhorod. With a history spanning more than 125 years, the company specializes in collecting blood plasma and manufacturing highly effective immunobiological drugs that save the lives of millions of people. 
Next, MIM alumnus Vasyl Yabryk warmly welcomed the attendees at his modern agricultural enterprise, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/faynofruit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Faino Fruit,</a> which specializes in the commercial cultivation, storage, and processing of pome and stone fruits. 
The introduction to the hospitality industry continued at the <a href="https://kosyno.apartel.ua/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Apartel Kosyno</a> —an innovative recreational real estate development that successfully combines the concept of an aparthotel with the resort infrastructure of thermal springs. 
A highlight of the module was a visit to <a href="https://stakhovskywines.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stakhovsky Wines</a>, a boutique winery founded by legendary Ukrainian tennis player Serhiy Stakhovsky. Starting in 2015 by leasing 20 hectares of land and painstakingly restoring the soil and vineyards, the team harvested its first crop in 2018. Today, the winery produces premium terroir wines using traditional methods, and its collection features the “Ace by Stakhovsky” line (Merlot, Saperavi, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zweigelt) and the “W by Stakhovsky” line (Traminer, Chardonnay, Riesling Orange). A detailed tour and tasting were held for the session participants. 
The module’s program harmoniously combined training, business visits, and informal networking. The participants of the off-site session also shared their impressions of the trip. 
Maksym Shapovalov, architect and owner of the architectural firm “ZODCHI”:

“Together with my fellow students, we visited a number of companies and spoke with partners on a wide variety of topics. To be honest, I didn’t expect much from the trip at first, but the result pleasantly surprised me: the visit turned out to be extremely productive. Entrepreneurs—even those from related or completely different industries—openly shared their experiences, and many of their management decisions can easily be applied in my field as well—architectural design and construction. Communication flowed so easily that we even organized additional meetings at 7:30 or 8:00 a.m. outside the official schedule, eager to exchange experiences. My expectations were definitely exceeded: I made countless new connections, gained a fresh perspective on business challenges, and saw how the regional characteristics of Zakarpattia influence even standardized business processes.”

Ilona Koval, Deputy Chair of the Board for Legal Affairs at Meest Group: 
<blockquote>
“What stood out most was the business dinner with Tetyana and Serhiy Shelest (SHEMAX). It was a lively, candid account of how to start a business from scratch for the second time—about relocation, setting up production under new conditions, and entering international markets. The entrepreneurs spoke openly about the challenges they faced and the missteps that ultimately led them to success, transparency, and maximum automation. The second highlight was a visit to “Biopharma PLASMA.” We were able to tour the entire plant as construction was nearing completion, including areas that will be off-limits to visitors once operations begin. The scale and social significance of this business are truly impressive. Overall, the trip turned out to be surprisingly well-rounded: over the course of three days, we immersed ourselves in biotechnology, agriculture, winemaking, and industrial production, gaining truly valuable experience among like-minded people.”

Summarizing the visit to Zakarpattia, Myroslava Grozinska noted:

During this year’s field trip to Zakarpattia, our students explored how local projects, unique expertise, and regional potential are transformed into successful national and international projects. Gaining hands-on experience with regional businesses directly at company sites is becoming a cherished tradition for MIM. In August 2026, Philadelphia hosted the 86th annual meeting of the <a href="https://www.aom.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Academy of Management</a>—one of the world’s largest events in the field of management, bringing together over 9,000 scholars and experts.
The sole representative from Ukraine was <a href="https://mim.kyiv.ua/en/team/teachers/teacher-tykhomyrova" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Iryna Tykhomyrova</a>, chair of the International Advisory Board and head of the Department of Management and Economics at the MIM Business School:

 “This is an opportunity to be directly involved in the birth of modern science.”

 For MIM, participating in the conference was not only an exchange of knowledge but also the foundation for new international partnerships: the development of the DBA program with the involvement of international expert support, joint research projects, and agreements to host Academy of Management seminars in Ukraine. This experience provided a powerful impulse for MIM’s strategic development and the formulation of plans for the 2026–2027 academic year. MIM on the Global Stage of Management

The MIM Business School held the official opening of the third cohort of the Women Leadership Program — a joint initiative of MIM and the Institute for Management Development (IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland), the world's №1 business school in Executive Education according to the Financial Times. 
In total, the admissions committee received 600 applications, and 270 were selected to participate in the competition.All candidates went through two stages of evaluation: first by the Ukrainian side, and then by the Swiss committee. 
Since its founding, the program has been aimed at developing women leaders in business, the public sector, government administration, and veteran entrepreneurship. At the same time, this year saw a significant increase in participation from the business sector, reflecting an important trend: business is seeking to be more engaged in public initiatives and to take an active part in the reconstruction of Ukraine. This became possible thanks to the synergy of the MIM Business School and IMD, as well as the support of the Responsible Reconstruction Fund. 
The participants were greeted by Oleksii Vynogradov, Acting President of the MIM Business School:

"The goal of the Women Leadership Program was formulated as support for the growing role of women in leadership in Ukrainian business, in public service, and in local self-government bodies. We strive to give these changes a structured character, depth, and an international dimension. 
We have met you at a moment when leadership in Ukraine is of decisive importance. Now, when many men are serving in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and defending the country, it is women who take on responsibility for the development of business, communities, and more. This program exists to support women leaders and to give them a clear structure, depth of action, and international practices adapted to our realities. The greetings were joined by Iryna Tykhomyrova, who launched the two previous cohorts and now Heads the International Advisory Board. She called on the participants to perceive the program as a deep educational experience with new opportunities and responsibilities and reminded them of the final stage in December — the defense of their own projects. 
Olena Kondratiuk, Deputy Chairwoman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, also offered her guidance to the participants:

"I congratulate the women leaders of the new intake of the Women Leadership Program, who, in conditions of absolute uncertainty, continue to create new opportunities, lead communities, and develop business. This course is not only about knowledge, but also about building connections, mutual support, and mentorship that will stay with you for life. May this program reveal your colossal potential and help strengthen the voice of Ukraine on the international stage."

Representatives of the Swiss side also took part in the event: Simon J. Evenett, Christine Batruch, and Joshua Clarke. They noted the importance of local leadership and spoke about the evolution of the course, emphasizing its purely practical, intensive character. The program is oriented toward the participants' real projects, coaching, a blended learning format, and work with interactive materials. 
Christine Batruch separately noted the uniqueness of the new intake and presented a special module dedicated to the principles of responsible reconstruction — with a focus on people, the environment, and the economy. 
This year's innovation was the creation of the Women Leadership Program Council, which includes graduates of previous years. They shared their own experience and advice for the participants of the third cohort. 
Notably, requests to participate in the program began arriving as early as the beginning of the year, which confirms its relevance and high demand among society and the women leaders of today. 
Ahead of the participants lies intensive study, growth, and new challenges. We wish them to make the most of the program's opportunities, to form clear goals, and to implement projects that will contribute to the reconstruction and development of Ukraine.

MIM Business School <a href="https://mim.kyiv.ua/programs_pre-mba">pre-MBA programme</a> students Tetiana Hrubeniuk and Karina Mashtalir have been nominated for the national "TOP 100 Women of Ukraine" award by the media project "Syla Vplyvu" (Power of Influence). The nomination recognizes leaders who are making a tangible difference in the country every day.
Joining Tetiana and Karina on the nominees list is their colleague Iryna Vashchuk-Disipio, President of the <a href="https://rsukraine.org.ua/">Revived Soldiers Ukraine</a> foundation. 
The "TOP 100 Women of Ukraine" award recognizes military personnel, volunteers, medical professionals, entrepreneurs, and heads of charitable organizations — women whose daily work has a measurable public impact.
For the Revived Soldiers Ukraine and NextStep Ukraine teams, this nomination carries particular significance, as it highlights the importance of their mission: providing treatment, prosthetics, and neurorehabilitation for wounded Ukrainian defenders, both in the United States and through a network of centers across Ukraine. The foundation has been providing systematic support to servicemembers in their return to active life for more than 11 years.

Two MIM Students Nominated for the "TOP 100 Women of Ukraine" Award

MIM Business School recently paid a visit to long-standing friends, partners, and alumni — the internet provider <a href="https://homenet.ua/cities/vyshneva-m-vyshneve/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Home.net</a>. Here is what that meeting revealed.
Members of the Home.net team have studied at MIM through both open programmes and, later, a large-scale corporate programme that grew into an ongoing partnership. When MIM representatives were invited to the company's office following a presentation at the Poltava Business Forum, Oleksii Vynogradov and Oleksandr Sudarkyn, Director of MBA and pre-MBA Leadership programmes, accepted without hesitation.
Oleksii Vynogradov shared his impressions:
<blockquote>
"Today, Home.net is a company that provides internet access with a focus not on major cities, but on small district centers and villages. The company has built its strategy around a mission: to help sustain quality of life in smaller communities by giving people connection to their loved ones, hope, and a sense of belonging to the wider world. The Poltava office is responsible for the entire Eastern region of Ukraine — managing and delivering internet services across every settlement in the East, the region most affected by the war and the most difficult to operate in. Our visit gave us a first-hand look at how the team functions and what drives it. We were struck by an extraordinarily warm welcome. We exchanged news, and colleagues shared how directly applicable the knowledge gained during their studies had proven in today's realities. They showed us the inner workings of the company: how business processes are structured and how people management is organized. Most significantly, the company shared its experience of the exceptionally hard winter of 2025–2026 — a period when icing, severe weather conditions, and blackouts left entire districts without power almost daily. Home.net responded with immediate flexibility, redeploying work crews from western and central Ukraine to the East. In abnormally low temperatures, people worked around the clock to restore connectivity — and with it, hope."
</blockquote>
 
For Ukrainians today, internet connectivity is as vital as electricity. During the darkest blackouts, the Home.net network was, for many, the only remaining access to the open world. The company had every legal and moral right to invoke force majeure and stand down. It chose otherwise — to restore connection as quickly as possible, regardless of circumstances.
Olena Vysotska, HR Director at HomeNet:
<blockquote>
"We did not choose the challenges that have fallen on our country. But we chose who we would be in the face of them. A crisis tests not only the strength of a network or the resilience of a business — it tests the maturity of people and systems. These are the moments that reveal whether a company can learn, adapt, and grow stronger. For HomeNet, these years have been not only a trial but a period of growth, in which every new challenge made us more professional, more united, and better prepared for the future."

War, blackouts, and the people who kept the connection alive. Oleh Bludov, Chief Operating Officer of Home.net and alumnus of MIM's corporate programme of 2024, describes how that character was forged and what decisions lie behind that resilience:
<blockquote>
"The hardest part was not the network damage. The hardest part was understanding that behind every outage were real people. When the large-scale strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure began, we watched internet access transform from an ordinary service into a genuine necessity. Through it, people worked, studied, received safety information, and stayed in contact with family members at the front and abroad. At that moment, we understood: we had no right to leave people without connection. Today, the Home.net network comprises more than 500 communication nodes across Ukraine. We had prepared in advance for potential blackouts: equipping the network with modern LiFePO₄ battery systems, installing generators at key nodes, and building a multi-level backup power system. As a result, all critical network nodes achieved autonomy of between 8 and 32 hours, with generators maintaining operations during extended outages. But no generator starts itself. No trunk line restores itself. Behind all of it were people. I remember nights when our engineers and installation teams were essentially living at the network nodes — welding optical fibre by torchlight, starting up equipment, checking batteries, and locating damage after successive strikes. I remember crews dispatched to sites immediately after large-scale power cuts to restore connectivity for thousands of subscribers. Alongside the energy war, we were also operating in regions directly affected by combat. More than 35% of the company's service territory came under active hostilities. Some 262 kilometers of cable lines were damaged, around 75 kilometers of network were lost, and nearly 200 kilometers of trunk infrastructure sustained damage. In Kherson Oblast, damage affected more than 35,000 households; in Mykolaiv Oblast, more than 25,000. After deoccupation, we were among the first to begin restoring the network and joined the first Resilience Hub the day after Kherson was liberated. What strikes me most are the stories of our own people. In Liubech, Chernihiv Oblast, residents were left without any connection to the outside world during the occupation. One of our colleagues found his own route into the village, delivered Starlink equipment, and restored connectivity for more than two thousand people. Moments like that remind us why we do this work. Because our work has never really been about the internet. It has been about the ability to hear a loved one's voice. About a child's remote lesson. About the message that says, 'I'm alive.' About the knowledge that even in the darkest times, you are not alone. If Home.net is called a reliable connection today, that is not the achievement of technology. It is the achievement of the people who every day did — and continue to do — everything possible to keep Ukraine connected."

Home.net: Those Who Didn't Hide Behind Force Majeure

"What comes into your life is not coincidence — it is the level you have grown into." This is the principle that guides Andrii Komar, a student of MIM Business School's MBA programme 2026–2027.
On 30 May, at the tenth anniversary ceremony of the "TOP-10 CFO of Ukraine 2025" rankings, Andrii Komar placed among the top three chief financial officers in the country, finishing second in the Mid-Size Business category of the rankings organized by <a href="https://www.cfo-club.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CFO Club Ukraine</a>.
For more than five years, Andrii Komar has led the financial function of the BGS Rail group of companies — one of Ukraine's largest private owners of freight wagons, part of the international holding Avia Solutions Group. 2025 proved a serious test for the company: a sharp drop in revenue caused by falling wagon lease rates significantly increased the risk of meeting debt obligations to key creditors.
Through his professional leadership, Andrii achieved the following:
<ul>
<li>restructured the debt in a timely manner and reduced the pressure on cash flow to a manageable level;</li>
<li>implemented a system of continuous financial forecasting;</li>
<li>established regular updates to cash flow planning;</li>
<li>ensured a prompt response to liquidity risks by reviewing CAPEX and OPEX.</li>
</ul>
 
The company not only adapted to crisis conditions but identified new growth opportunities. Business development in Kazakhstan — a more favorable market — increased both revenue and EBITDA, while also creating an additional liquidity buffer to support the Ukrainian operations.
This achievement demonstrates that strategic thinking, crisis leadership, and a strong team make it possible not only to weather challenges, but to emerge from them stronger.
