Crisis and Resilience: A Deep Dive into Ukraine's Economic Landscape Amidst War

SE MBA

In the span of a mere two weeks, from the commencement of classes to a full-scale invasion, the inaugural year concluded with echoes of shelling and power blackouts. A distinct chapter in the MBA journey unfolded, characterized not only by the rigors of management studies but also by the exigencies of wartime decision-making. The road to graduation proved arduous for the MBA cohort, whose members, amidst unprecedented challenges, proudly received their diplomas on January 26. Notably, the Senior Executive MBA group witnessed the perseverance of Vladislav Tyutyunnik and Yulia Izonina, the sole individuals electing to pursue their studies amid the tumult.
 Vladyslav Tiutiunnyk, the director of Inter Agrolab and now a SE MBA graduate, reflected on the formidable undertaking: "We commenced with our studies just weeks before the full-scale invasion. These two years have been marked by gravity and difficulty. The last two months were particularly strenuous, delving into financial management and control—a formidable task for someone with an agronomy background. Yet, with the unwavering support of faculty and administrators, we have triumphed in completing our studies."
Iryna Tykhomyrova, President of MIM, hailed the decision to pursue education in times of war as an investment in the future. Speaking directly to the graduates, she underscored the Business School as a perpetual haven, stating, "I want MIM to always be with you. I want us to stand together. Though it may seem that previous groups graduated during challenging times, such as the era of Covid, your journey involved navigating exceedingly difficult trials. Your commitment to continued education signifies, among other things, our collective faith in victory, for learning is invariably oriented towards the future, and together, we shall shape it."
Oleksandr Sudarkin, Director of the MBA program, acknowledged the challenges overcome by the graduating class and emphasized that the symbiotic process of interaction not only enriched the students but also elevated the faculty, enabling them to serve as even more effective mentors for subsequent cohorts. He expressed gratitude, saying, "I want to thank you - you make us better. The fundamental principle of the business school is that professors are not entitled to the truth. What we share with you is the result of mutual enrichment. Your group has faced challenges since the onset of the invasion, and many have persevered in building resilience. Our task is to methodically carry out our work, for MBA is not solely about success, luck, and inspiration; it entails the ability to replicate success not only here and now but to make a MIM graduate, as a Ukrainian manager, a symbol of quality worldwide."
The tradition of honoring outstanding graduation theses held a special place in the ceremony. Vitaliy Gaiduk, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of MIM, presented a distinctive award to Tetyana Tymchenko, the Financial Director of Nova Poshta, for her exceptional work on productivity management at the company's sorting centers.
Mr. Gaiduk shared his perspective on the selection, stating, "When I reviewed the papers, it was the first time I abstained from reading the faculty's reviews. This decision is subjective, and all the works were formidable. The emotional weight in this choice stems from my engagement in the war, encountering a company that flawlessly transported three thousand tons of humanitarian aid daily. This company remained exemplary even when tasked with supplying the rear, not just the front lines."
Tetyana Tymchenko shed light on the significance of her thesis, explaining, "I focused on a productivity management system for sorting centers. Why this topic? The construction and expansion of our sorting centers represent the most substantial investments within the company. It was crucial for me to develop a system for managing productivity and costs to optimize efficiency, minimize expenses, and reduce losses—a strategy actively implemented in our company." She also highlighted the influential role MIM graduates in leadership positions at Nova Poshta play in propelling the company's overall development through the amalgamation of acquired knowledge.
In celebrating the completion of this formidable educational odyssey, we extend heartfelt congratulations to these resilient and motivated graduates. May their acquired knowledge pave the way for effective and efficient endeavors, and we eagerly anticipate welcoming them back to MIM in the future.
