Did you know that accountants came up with the name of the world's most famous beverage, created legendary comic book heroes, and even discovered Troy?
And what do comedy icon Louis de Funès, queen of crime fiction Agatha Christie, and science fiction writer Herbert Wells have in common? The answer is surprising — and it can be found in the new publication by Professor Serhiy Holov: Accounting: People, Countries, Terms.
MIM Business School's library has received a remarkable gift - an encyclopedic dictionary from our faculty member, Doctor of Economics and Professor <a href="https://mim.kyiv.ua/team/teachers/teacher-golov" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Serhiy Holov</a>. It is the product of 15 years of research and makes a compelling case that accounting is not just about numbers and reports - it is about people, culture, and decisions that changed the course of world history, adding humanity, adventure, and depth to civilization.
The book goes well beyond conventional professional reference. It weaves together history, geography, culture, sport, business, and professional terminology, presenting accountants as strategists whose influence on society runs far deeper than commonly assumed. It speaks not only to the technical practice of accounting, but to the profession's broader civilizational contribution.
