New formats and deep conversations: a week of events at MIM

Last week, MIM Business School held the official opening of its new MBA season. The event took place in person: despite difficult weather and power outages, most students made it in to meet each other and mark the start of a new chapter together.
In her opening address, MIM Business School President Iryna Tykhomyrova spoke to what leadership demands today:

"In classical theory, business education is built around three questions: what you know, what you can do, and what you can earn. But in our reality, that is no longer enough. Today, knowledge and skill also mean the capacity to take responsibility - responsibility for decisions that affect not only your company, but your employees' families, the business environment, and the country as a whole.
For a long time, business strategy almost always meant scaling and expansion. Today, many leaders face a different and no less demanding challenge: keeping the business alive and holding steady through everything. The MBA gives you tools for that - but with a different lens. These are next-generation tools that let you look at your business from a new angle and see what others miss.
Learning is also about emotion. It is time to build new connections, mutual trust, and respect - because none of that can be separated from real business. To use an aviation metaphor: pilots once navigated by maps and whatever they could see out the window. Then instruments arrived, and suddenly they could rise above the clouds and fly on instruments alone. The knowledge you gain at MIM is exactly that - instruments that will help you navigate confidently through the fog of uncertainty."

She also drew particular attention to the fact that this year's cohorts include veterans and combat veterans - calling it a powerful signal of the readiness to build the country through intellect and professional community.
The alumni also took the floor to share their experience and congratulate the new students.
Olena Miroshnichenko, MBA 2024-25 alumna, noted: "MBA is a path of great responsibility and reassessment. I hope you never take a step sideways, even when it gets hard. Remember: studying is like a flight that always departs on time. But what matters is not just making it to the gate - it's knowing what you're bringing on board. Make sure your bag is packed with the best tools MIM has to offer, so you can play a real part in building our country's future."
Nadiia Suddia, MBA 2023–24 alumna, spoke to the importance of the MIM community. She encouraged students not to limit themselves to lectures, but to actively build projects together and connect outside the classroom - because the best solutions come from synergy. She welcomed the new students into the MIM family and urged them not to stop when things get hard, because MIM gives you not only knowledge, but friendships that last a lifetime.
The first day wrapped up with the traditional networking session and a team quest - learning and collaboration started from the very first hour.

MIM MBA Program 2026–2027 Kicks Off

MIM Business School celebrated the graduation of its MBA and Senior Executive MBA students. The diploma awarding ceremony brought together faculty, business school partners, honored guests, and the families of graduates. The atmosphere combined the formality of the occasion with genuine joy, and a deep sense of the responsibility graduates carry as they step into the professional world.
The ceremony opened with addresses from the school's leadership and faculty who had accompanied students throughout their two years of study. Their remarks recognized the extraordinary commitment and resilience of this graduating class - people who managed businesses, led teams, and kept learning through war and uncertainty.
MIM Business School President Iryna Tykhomyrova addressed the graduates:

"Every graduation ceremony here is special. But since 2020, we have been talking about education more than we have been talking about choice. Your path is a particular one. You decided to pursue your studies in 2023, when it was already clear the war would not end quickly. You studied through 2024 and 2025 while working, running businesses, and holding your teams together. That was a conscious and very courageous decision. To us, you are not simply graduates - you are winners. Not because it was easy, but because you learned to act without guarantees, to keep learning under uncertainty, and to believe in the future even when it felt fragile. It is community, education, and responsible leadership that can carry Ukraine through this war - toward recovery and prosperity. Today you mark your own victory. And I am genuinely proud of you." 
</blockquote>
Remarks were also delivered by Myroslava Grozinska, Vice President of MIM Business School, and Oleksandr Sudarkin, MBA Program Director, both of whom spoke to the transformative journey students had undertaken and the lasting value of the MIM community.
A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of a personal award from Vitaliy Hayduk, Chairman of the MIM Business School Supervisory Board, for the best thesis. This year four students reached the final, making the decision particularly difficult. Addressing the graduates, Vitaliy Hayduk noted that all four projects were substantive and professionally strong - but one stood out for the precision with which it addressed some of today's most pressing challenges, including the human capital deficit and the need for new approaches to organizing business in Ukraine. The Best Thesis Award went to Oleksandr Kling.
Student representatives from both the MBA and SE MBA programs spoke with gratitude and energy, emphasizing the value of the mutual support and the distinctive environment that MIM fosters. The traditional tossing of graduation caps and a group photo brought the ceremony to a fittingly joyful close.
Ahead of the graduates lie new professional challenges and ambitious projects. They have joined the MIM community - carrying with them not only an MBA diploma, but experience shaped by shared hardship and genuine human connections.

MIM Business School Holds MBA and SE MBA Graduation Ceremony

Did you know that accountants came up with the name of the world's most famous beverage, created legendary comic book heroes, and even discovered Troy?
And what do comedy icon Louis de Funès, queen of crime fiction Agatha Christie, and science fiction writer Herbert Wells have in common? The answer is surprising — and it can be found in the new publication by Professor Serhiy Holov: Accounting: People, Countries, Terms.
MIM Business School's library has received a remarkable gift - an encyclopedic dictionary from our faculty member, Doctor of Economics and Professor <a href="https://mim.kyiv.ua/team/teachers/teacher-golov" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Serhiy Holov</a>. It is the product of 15 years of research and makes a compelling case that accounting is not just about numbers and reports - it is about people, culture, and decisions that changed the course of world history, adding humanity, adventure, and depth to civilization.
The book goes well beyond conventional professional reference. It weaves together history, geography, culture, sport, business, and professional terminology, presenting accountants as strategists whose influence on society runs far deeper than commonly assumed. It speaks not only to the technical practice of accounting, but to the profession's broader civilizational contribution.

Accountants Who Changed the World: A Unique Addition to the MIM Library

On January 23, 2026, the AMBA &amp; BGA Excellence Awards ceremony took place at the Royal Garden Hotel in London - one of the most prestigious events in global business education. MIM Business School's Women Leadership Program (WLP) took first place in the Best Culture, Diversity and Inclusion Initiative category.
The event brought together over 200 leaders from the global business education community, including category finalists, international jury members, and media representatives. Winners were announced across 13 categories recognizing outstanding practice among business schools, students, alumni, employers, and industry partners.
The Best Culture, Diversity and Inclusion Initiative Award – in which MIM Business School won - recognizes institutions that systematically implement and develop practices around culture, diversity, and inclusion.
 
The 2026 shortlist included six finalists:

The reception in the room was deeply moving: Iryna Tykhomyrova, President of MIM Business School, received a standing ovation that continued long after she began her remarks. That response became a symbol of Ukraine's courage - a country that, even in the hardest of times, keeps defending, working, teaching, and learning.
Accepting the award, Iryna Tykhomyrova said:

"I am deeply grateful to AMBA for this recognition. It highlights the global importance of investing in women's leadership development. For Ukraine, this award carries particular meaning. The war has profoundly reshaped our social and demographic realities - with so many men serving in the Armed Forces, women are taking on an ever-greater share of leadership roles in business, public life, and their communities. This award is a reminder that the future of leadership is deeply human - built on care, dignity, mutual support, and the courage to take responsibility for one another in times of uncertainty. For us, this is not only recognition of the Women Leadership Program - it is a powerful signal of the world's support for Ukraine. We have shown that even in the most difficult conditions of war, we can create educational initiatives that help women build leadership competencies and contribute to the rebuilding of their country."

MIM's Women Leadership Program Named World's Best at AMBA & BGA Excellence Awards 2026

Last week, MIM Business School welcomed Andrii Dligach - entrepreneur, academic, and strategist with 36 years of experience. In his lecture for SE MBA students, he delivered a wide-ranging overview: from global geopolitical shifts to concrete investment guidance.
In Dligach's view, the world has definitively moved from a chessboard to a poker table. In this new reality, unpredictability is the norm and traditional models of strategy no longer hold. Ukraine sits at the center of a transition to what he calls the "A-World," where three competencies become decisive: Adaptability, Agility, and Accountability.
He argued that to survive an economic and cultural war, Ukraine must shift from being an object of external influence to a confident actor - one that sells the world its unique resilience.
Andrii Dligach's top 5 strategic forecasts for 2026–2027:
<ul>
<li>Agency through chaos, and AI as a service. Ukraine should position itself as a player in the market for chaos, capitalizing on its hard-won experience operating under uncertainty. At the same time, artificial intelligence will cease to be merely a tool and evolve into a full-service model (AIaaS), fundamentally reshaping the labor market.</li>
</ul>
 
<ul>
<li>Technological leap and militarization. Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is expected to arrive as early as 2027–2028. In parallel, Ukraine has a real opportunity to become a global leader in Defense Tech - drones, electronic warfare - generating both security and export potential.</li>
</ul>
 
<ul>
<li>The collapse of traditional geopolitics and the rise of protectionism. The world is fragmenting into competing centers of influence, and Ukraine will need to navigate between the US, the broader West, and China. Escalating economic conflicts will push businesses toward friend-shoring - working exclusively with allied and trusted partners.</li>
</ul>
 
<ul>
<li>Economic war instead of deals. With no genuine common ground with the aggressor, businesses should prepare for a prolonged confrontation and a battle of narratives, setting aside any expectation of a quick and lasting peace.</li>
</ul>
 
<ul>
<li>Energy transformation and financial volatility. The shift to cheaper renewable energy and the introduction of stringent EU climate standards will set new parameters for business. Meanwhile, 2026 may bring risks of global financial instability, demanding more flexible financing models.</li>
</ul>

MIM Business School hosted its Open Day. Despite difficult conditions - power outages and winter ice - we were glad to welcome people who, regardless of everything, chose the path of knowledge and professional growth.
The opening address was delivered by Oleksii Vynohradov, Vice President of MIM Business School and Director of the pre-MBA Business and pre-MBA Marketing programs. He spoke not only about the school itself, but about current trends in business education in Ukraine and globally: how to choose the right school, what sets Ukrainian programs apart from those abroad, and what criteria prospective students should pay attention to. He also ran a quick individual assessment for each guest, helping them determine which program best fits their background and goals - <a href="https://mim.kyiv.ua/programs/mba" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MBA</a>, <a href="https://mim.kyiv.ua/programs/se-mba" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Senior Executive MBA</a> or <a href="https://mim.kyiv.ua/programs/pre-MBA_biznes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pre-MBA</a>.
A highlight of the event was a presentation by MBA alumnus Oleh Shaporenko, who completed the program during the full-scale invasion. He shared his experience and spoke at length about the value of the business simulations that are a core part of MIM's MBA program.
Oleh Shaporenko is an entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience - from launching dozens of businesses to building large-scale, systemically run operations.
<blockquote>
"I'm 40, and roughly twenty of those years have been in entrepreneurship. To be honest, I've been involved in at least 30 businesses - probably more. Some stayed small; some grew to national scale. Today, the word 'business' gets applied to everything - from an Instagram page with two orders to a fully functioning company. For me, a business is a system: one that can scale, withstand crisis, and operate according to sound economic logic." 
</blockquote>
Despite his track record, Oleh admits that for a long time he lacked a solid management foundation.
<blockquote>
"I could see the results, but I couldn't always explain them in the language of economics or international standards. I needed to put the full picture together - to connect experience, intuition, and theory. That's why I chose the MBA at MIM. Because an MBA isn't about ready-made answers - it's about building the foundation for decisions that hold." 
</blockquote>
One of the most significant effects of the MBA, in Oleh's view, was a shift in the quality of his decisions - and the people around him.
<blockquote>
"Before the MBA, I couldn't always tell whether the person in front of me was a genuinely strong manager or just a good storyteller. After the MBA, that becomes impossible to miss. You have a foundation that lets you instantly tell the difference between a compelling narrative and real economics." 
</blockquote>
He was equally candid about the challenges:
<blockquote>
"An MBA raises your standards for the people around you and finding people who match that level gets harder. But when you do - the results multiply. After finishing the program, I launched a new business project that was built from scratch in a year and a half and is already operating in the Ukrainian market. Where ambition and energy are used to drive everything, now it's the foundation that makes the business resilient." 
</blockquote>
Oleh also addressed the common claim that MBA programs are outdated:
<blockquote>
"If you see an MBA as an outdated program - fair enough, in some ways. But if you look at it as the most fundamentally sound program that has stood the test of time, it will remain relevant for decades to come. Short courses and workshops can't give you the full picture. Trying to piece together what an MBA gives you from those fragments is nearly impossible." 
</blockquote>
He also offered his own definition of adaptability - which he sees as the essential skill of a modern leader:
<blockquote>
"Adaptability isn't about chasing short-term trends. It's the ability to connect historical context, current conditions, and a forward-looking assessment of risk. That's what the MBA taught me." 
</blockquote>
Oleh closed with the following:
<blockquote>
"An MBA is not about status, and it's not about ready-made answers. It's about saving time, building systems, and being able to make sound decisions under uncertainty." 
</blockquote>
