Last week, MIM Business School hosted a closed-format session that many students had been looking forward to. The guest was Taras Kyrychenko - MBA alumnus (class of 2000), owner of the “Toloka” investment holding, and a recognized expert in corporate governance.
The talk was extensive and grounded in real experience - and even after it wrapped up, students kept the conversation going. Given the closed format, we can share a few key takeaways, but they are the kind that shift how you think about business and investment:
<ol>
<li>Education is one of your most important investments - one that ensures quality of choices in life. For Taras Kyrychenko, studying is not about the diploma - it is about the ability to make the right choices under uncertainty. Education provides analytical tools that help you cut through the noise and see opportunities where others see only chaos. This resonates fully with MIM's values: we learn in order to make better decisions.</li>
<li>A supervisory board is not a trend or a status accessory. It is a tool for survival and for stepping back from day-to-day operations. If the owner is still signing every invoice, they are not operating as a business owner; they are functioning as a self-employed individual. Owners often treat their business like their own child and can act emotionally as a result. A supervisory board is the "cold head" in the room: it stops resources from being burned where there is no future and builds a system that runs without constant manual control.</li>
<li>Risks. Despite the war, money exists in the country - but investors are afraid of uncertainty. The role of a professional CEO or board member today is to give partners confidence that risks are manageable. Right now, is the time for those who know how to work with risk, not avoid it.</li>
<li>AI is already consuming the job market. Artificial intelligence is not the future - it is the present. Everyone whose work can be algorithmized is under threat: lawyers, translators, logistics managers. The future belongs to AI agents that can find the best contracts or asset rights anywhere in the world within seconds.</li>
<li style="font-weight: bold;">Taras Kyrychenko's golden rule of investment: </li>
</ol>

<li>In yourself - education is an asset no one can take away. </li>
<li>In friends - lending to a friend is not a financial transaction, it is an investment in the relationship and in trust.</li>
<li>In your partner - investment in family always comes back, because it is about emotional stability.</li>
</ul>
