Today's challenges, amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic, necessitate changes in numerous areas, particularly the financial sector. Digital technologies are transforming the banking sector, and the rise of cryptocurrencies presents new challenges for countries to develop their own digital currencies. Concurrently, issues related to the financing of terrorism and private military companies need to be addressed. These points are highlighted in the opening remarks by Oleksiy Alexandrov, Doctor of Economics and permanent guest lecturer at MIM, in the special issue of the Baltic Journal of Legal and Social Sciences.
In his article, <a href="https://doi.org/10.30525/2592-8813-2024-spec-3">PRIVATE BANKING &amp; WEALTH MANAGEMENT MODERN PROBLEMS OF THE INDUSTRY. CUSTOMER REQUIREMENTS: IS THE INDUSTRY READY FOR A RESET</a> , Alexandrov discusses the need to rethink private banking to meet customer demands. There are compelling reasons for this, given the changing age demographics of bank customers, with Generation Z now being significant participants. This generation's dissatisfaction with digitalization levels is evident, with a quarter of customers expressing discontent and one in five changing banks during the pandemic due to this reason.
Meanwhile, Volodymyr Danko, Professor of the Department of Business Administration at MIM, in his article <a href="https://doi.org/10.30525/2592-8813-2024-spec-15">IS CBDC THE REMEDY TO REVOLUTIONIZE COUNTRIES BANKING &amp; FINANCIAL SYSTEMS (WITH PRIMERELY OBECT TO UKRAINE)?</a> examines the prospects and risks associated with introducing the Central Bank Digital Currency, E-Hryvnia, in Ukraine. Ukraine has been developing this type of currency for several years and has conducted pilot testing.
Danko's article provides a comprehensive analysis of the global trend towards the research and implementation of digital currencies by central banks, with a detailed examination of the Ukrainian context. It outlines the unresolved issues, opportunities, and risks associated with launching state digital currencies in the financial system. Additionally, a collection of articles from the XIV International Scientific and Practical Conference "Time of Changes and Opportunities: Challenges, Solutions, Prospects," held in Riga, Latvia, was published in May. It includes an article titled "Prospects for Postwar Recovery and Economic Growth of Ukraine," co-authored by MIM President Iryna Tykhomyrova and Volodymyr Danko. The authors analyze Ukraine's pre-war economic indicators, which were on an upward trajectory before the full-scale invasion, and assess the extent of losses and needs for the restoration and development of various sectors. They also explore potential responsible parties for Ukraine's post-war recovery and predict economic trends for the coming year.
