From Audit to Strategy: MIM Students Present Solutions for Non-Profits

MIM Business School recently held the project defense session for its MBA4NGO program - a unique format in which MBA students provide pro bono consulting to non-profit organizations, helping them find new growth opportunities and develop systemic solutions.
Over several months, MBA students analyzed the work of charitable foundations and civic organizations and developed recommendations to support their further effective operation. Oleksandr Sudarkin, Director of the MBA and Pre-MBA Leadership programs and Associate Professor at MIM Business School, spoke about this year's results.

The learning process is structured so that the group works as a professional consulting team: analyzing the NGO's needs, studying documentation in detail, and identifying the root causes of problems. The goal is to develop concrete recommendations for the organizations' further effective work."

This year's focus organizations were:
<ul>
<li>Epiprosviта civic organization: developing solutions to improve services for patients with epilepsy. </li>
<li>Center for Urban Social Development charitable foundation: analyzing work with internally displaced persons and optimizing processes.</li>
<li>Bachu Pemohu ("I See Victory") charitable foundation: supporting access to free vision treatment.</li>
</ul>
According to Oleksandr Sudarkin, each proposed solution was unique. In the "I See Victory" case, for example, the student group clearly separated the business interests of the clinic owners from the mission of the charitable foundation - avoiding a conflict of interests and establishing the right positioning.
Oleksandr Sudarkin also highlighted the case of an organization helping families with children with special needs. The founders dreamed of creating a respite space where parents could take a break while specialists looked after their children - but donors were reluctant to fund the initiative. MIM students proposed changing the core message: instead of "a break for parents," they developed the concept of a "Life Skills Academy for Children." Now donors are funding not parental leisure, but the opportunity for children to develop independence. This fundamentally changed the project's appeal to international partners.
The MBA4NGO program's long-standing partner is the Philanthropy in UA platform, which audits NGOs and acts as a filter for international donors. This year the organization was both a partner and an active participant in the process.
Representatives of all featured organizations were present at the defense and gave honest feedback on the relevance of the recommendations. Encouragingly, many of the proposals were already being taken up almost immediately after the presentations. For the students themselves, this year's MBA4NGO defense was a successful practical test of their ability to apply complex analytical tools in service of society.
